Chores are activities that help make Camp run smoothly for all of us and are, for the most part, fun! Chores can be anything from assisting with meal prep to helping run the Pony Show. Chore signup sheets will be available during check-in when you arrive at Camp.
Campers who have signed up for the Full Monty (all nine days) will be asked to perform 8 hours of chores. Campers who have signed up for Session 1 or Session 2 will be asked to perform 4 hours of chores.
Daily Chores
Taxi
Helping campers get from one side of camp to the other is what this chore is all about. For this chore you’ll be driving a golf cart on the roads around camp. This can be a great way to meet folks as you can have lots of passengers during your shift.
HQ Floater
This is a jack of all trades chore that is all about helping the folks at HQ keep everything going. You may be asked to do any of the following:
- Help clean up around the pool
- Take food and other supplies up to staff at the gate
- Run errands for Camp Staff
- Cover for a Taxi driver while they eat
A great job to meet people as lots of folks will visit HQ over the course of a single shift.
Meal Serving
One of the most important chores at camp, helping to serve food to campers in the mess hall. This chore involves standing for the entire shift so please keep that in mind when you sign up for this and please arrive 15 minutes before the meal starts so we can be ready when it is time to eat.
Waffle Artist
This is a special meal serving shift in the mornings with a focus on the waffle machines. The goal of this chore is to make sure the waffle irons are clean at the end of breakfast. The easiest way to do this is to make sure they get sprayed down before waffle batter is poured into them.
Meal Cleanup
This chore starts halfway through the meal and is about helping the Camp Ramblewood kitchen staff clean up the mess hall. This chore may include wiping down tables, mopping or helping with dishes.
Late Night Snack
Are you a night owl who wants first dibs on a late night snack? This is the chore for you! Part serving and part clean up, you’ll get to do a little of everything.
Special Event Setup/Cleanup
Do you like to help decorate? Does getting involved with some of our programming excite you? Helping us setup before or cleanup after our events might be for you! Our events team can always use help making sure our events are the standout affairs that really make camp what it is.
Limited Chores
These chores either have a small number of slots or are for a specific event and occur infrequently.
Afternoon Tea Setup and Breakdown
This is actually two separate chores that involve helping to unpack and setup all the things needed for the Tea. The breakdown chore is the task of helping to clean up and pack everything away for next year.
Barback
Some of our social events have a bar and when you have a bar, you need a barback. These folks help the bartender keep the drinks flowing by fetching ice, keeping the bar clean and helping with the setup/cleanup of the bar.
Laundry
Some parts of camp generate a little bit of laundry. This chore involves grabbing the laundry from HQ, running it through the wash (quarters and soap supplied), folding and returning to HQ.
Pony Show
The Camp Crucible Pony Show is one of the largest pony shows in the country. Come help make it better than ever. Your chores can be fulfilled AND you get to be part of the fun. We need help getting all the pony music handled, assisting with wrangling all the ponies, trainers, carts, and props, directing the audience, getting drinks and calories to hungry ponies, setting up the arena for performances that require special arrangements, and assisting the judges with ribbons.
Casino Night
Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a dealer at a casino? This is the job for you! The Camp Crucible Casino is an event where people have the opportunity to gamble for camp dollars and the best news is that it is very hard to lose. No casino or card experience is necessary, but it does help to know the rules to Blackjack.
