Camp Crucible Pirates

Our Story So Far

We've been producing camp events from the very first Black Rose Leather Retreat in 1998. In 2003, we decided to strike out on our own to create our version of Camp. The first Camp Crucible was held in the spring of 2004 and we haven't looked back!

"We should do a theme, or something." we thought. "Good idea, what sort of theme?"

Why not pirates? It'll give everybody a chance to dress in their Renn Faire outfits more than just during the fall Renn Faire season, and lots of people are into pirates...

So we did. We created a fantasy role play event based on a pirate theme, the first one being:

Pirate Invasion
We created the "Pirate Invasion" story line based on our theme and the folks who attended that first Camp. It was Fabulous! Costumes were everywhere and our folks loved it.
Revenge
In year two, we continued the theme, and created a fantasy conflict amongst the staff and campers, with the "Admiral" of the fleet exacting revenge on his recalcitrant Crucible Corsairs. Another big successful enterprise.
Casbah
What to do in year 3? Well, we're freaking PIRATES, we've got (fantasy) ships, let's get the hell out of musky old England. and sail off to somewhere else. Thus Conquering the Casbah. We "sailed" to the Barbary Coast and raided the Sultan's harems and stole his gold.
Ravished
Seems the Sultan was smarter than we gave him credit for. He sent his harem girls to seduce the Crucible Corsairs, and co-opt them. It was a simple and highly effective strategy. Everybody on the Barbary Coast got Ravished, to the delight of all.
Vayage
"Where should we go now?" all asked. We've got lots of gold and harem girls, let's go home. So the fleet sailed out of the Mediterranean and headed home to musky Old England. However, as we rounded past that big assed rock guarding the Med, more adventurous minds questioned our destination. "Why don't we keep going West, and check out this new world?" So we headed to the Caribbean.
Parlay
Putting ashore in N'awlins, our leaders, the Admiral and "Sister" Susan decided to part ways, and thus the week was a big Parlay to decide who got the harem girls, and the gold. An equitable division was quickly found, there being so much of both, and the Corsairs descended on N'awlins to wreck havoc.
Brave
The authorities in N'awlins decided that it was a prudent time for the Corsairs to depart, so it was decided to board one of the paddle wheelers going up the mighty Mississippi, and go overland to partake in the gold rush in the new territory called San Francisco. To take a look see at the opportunities offered by the Brave New World.
MardiGras
Discovering that going overland meant wagons with no sails, or even "heads", and the necessity of being pulled by MULES, the crew quickly said Hell NO, let's go make nice with the constabulary in N'awlins, and check out that big assed party they call Mardi Gras. N'awlins authorities being what they are were easy to convince with many well placed "tributes". Parades, beads, carnivals, and festivities all ensued.
Port Royal

After experiencing the insanity of New Orleans Mardi Gras, the Corsairs wanted to see the biggest party of them all, Carnival in South America. Knowing that the voyage will take a year or two, we will first stop in Jamaica's Port Royal, the birthplace of Caribbean pirating.

Especially after hearing this from Governor Sir William Lytton:

“Port Royal, Jamica is
not a region burdened
by moral excesses”
c. 1665

Treasure Island

This year, Treasure Island:

On the way down the Carribean, the Corsairs were hit by a freak storm, throwing them off course. After the storm, they spotted a small island not on any charts, and so put ashore to refit and refurbish.

One of the crew recognized the island, as the place Pirate NumbNuts set ashore years ago and buried some of his ill gotten gains. No further discussion weas needed, we're gonna FIND IT.
